How To Buy A Car On Autotrader.

Looking for a slightly used car, or maybe one that is a little more on the well-used side?  From antiques to sports cars, SUVs to hybrids and motorcycles to RVs, Autotrader.com has it all.  Knowing how to navigate the Autotrader website will also help you to separate auto sales from advertisements, fact from fiction and lemons from gold.  How to find a car on Autotrader.com is very simple, especially if you are hoping to find a deal close to home.

When the Autotrader.com website is accessed, you will find yourself on a page that offers, in larger, bold letters;  “Find Special Offers In Your Area”.  You can select a distance of 10 to 100 miles separating you from your potential next car, and you start by inputting your Zip code, for Americans, or your Postal code, for Canadians, underneath the “Where will you look” question.  You can then choose between any one, or any combination of “Special Offers”, which include;

*    All Special Offers
*    New Special Offers
*    Certified Special Offers
*    Used Special Offers

After making your selection(s) from the Special Offers List, you can then select “Type of Special Offer”.  You will get more results by selecting the “All Types” choice, or you can refine your search by choosing between the following offer types;

*    Lease Payments
*    Purchase Payments
*    Price Reduction
*    Special Financing
*    Deferred Payment
*    Product Bonus
*    Service Bonus
*    Bad Credit
*    Trade In Value
*    Used Car Discount

With your choice of Offer Types chosen, you then select the body style that you are looking for, like a sedan or sports car.  The complete list of body styles includes;

*    Convertible, Coupe, Hatchback, Sedan, SUV, Truck, Van/Minivan and/or Wagon.

Then, after selecting the body style(s) that you are interested in, you can choose to refine your search by giving a date of manufacture time frame.  Select the earliest year that you would want a car from, starting at 1981 and ending at 2011.  Then select the latest year that you would want your “new”, used car to be made in, from 1981 to 2011.

With the time frame for the vehicle of your dreams chosen, like a 1996 or a 2009 model, you are then asked if there are any other keywords that you would like to add to refine your search.  You can include convertible or hard top, engine size, transmission preference or tire size, among other options that you may prefer.  With your search options now fully refined, select the green “Search” button, and you will be given a list of vehicles that match your criteria, that are within the mileage distance from your home, that you selected ealier.

If you see the car of your dreams, make an offer!  If not, the return to the home page and use some of the other options that Autotrader.com offers.  At the top of the Autotrader.com home page, you also have the options to select “Find Cars for Sale”, “Research Cars” or “Find Local Dealers”.  To find cars for sale on Autotrader.com, if the Find Special Offers in Your Area option is not finding what you want simply click on the link that you think you may have a better chance of finding a good deal on what you want, and then follow the on-screen directions to find your new, used car.

Drive safe.  Drive informed.

Latest Sports Cars question by Dr. Ernest J Folk: If somebody made a stylish hybrid or electric car that looked like and handled like a sports car…?
would you buy it if it retailed for 12,000 dollars? Also wouldn’t it be cool if it had gull wing doors?

Is anyone else disappointed with the way cars look now? Aren’t we supposed to have futuristic looking cars? not large safety boxes that resemble economy cars of the late 70s and 80s.
