Racing Wheels question by the matt: How much of a difference do wheels (racing) make for an Ironman triathlon?
I’m considering getting deeper dish wheels like Zipps or something similar but want to know if what /if any advantage there is in performance over an Ironman course. For example: Does it help improve by 1 mph average etc. ?

I currently use a road Trek Madone and need new wheels but should I pony up for a new deeper wheel set and is worth the cost or just get regular training/road wheels?
(ha…or maybe a new triathlon bike all together!?!?

Your bike is very capable, no need to replace it. Wheel upgrades are important. Deep aero or not you want the lightest, strongest, with the lowest resistance bearing set you can afford. The best place to start is reading some reviews:

Neuvation wheels are less well known than Mavic, Easton, and Zipp. They are none-the-less very fast wheels.

Low rotating mass of your wheel and tire combination on a medium depth rim will be faster than a heavier deep aero wheel.

By all means mount Continental Gran Prix 4000S on your wheels. Low weight and low rolling resistance.
