Top Tips For Alloy Wheel Refurbishment And Alloy Wheel Repair

Alloy wheels are expensive. You don’t want to replace them unless they are very badly damaged. If you want to get them repaired you don’t want to let just anyone have a go at repairing them. So make sure you use a specialist Alloy Wheel Refurbishment company. Avoid the cowboys – more on this later. Repairing or refurbishing wheels involves removing them from the car (or motor bike, truck, van or whatever). The wheels also need to be separated from the tyres so a proper repair can take place without missing any parts of the wheel that can’t be reached.

The wheel will first be stripped of the lacquer coating. Then, if the damage is bad, or if there is any corrosion of the alloy, the wheel will be sandblasted. Any dents or deep scratches can be filled with a suitable filler. The wheel is then heated and polished before a clear (or sometimes coloured) lacquer coat is applied. Finally the tyres are replaced and the wheels rebalanced before being fitted back on the vehicle.

There are some exceptions to this process. If the damage is slight and easily accessible it’s possible to carry out a quick cosmetic repair but be skeptical of any repair service that quotes you a ridiculously low price for a thorough job. All they’ll do is flash over the damage and in a few months time your wheels will look as shabby as ever and you’ll be back where you started!

So, it’s not a simple process but, using modern equipment, it can be carried out quickly and inexpensively (compared to the cost of a new set of wheels). The repairer may need you to bring the wheels to their workshop and leave them overnight if the repairs are extensive. However, the good news is that there is an increasing number of mobile workshops where the repairer can come to your house or office and carry out the repair on site. Obviously this is much more convenient for you.

The best mobile repair companies even have websites where you can get an instant quotation and book a date for repair on-line from the comfort of your home. All they need is an accurate description of the wheels, the damage, and the type of repair service you want. This will allow them to give you an accurate price and book an appointment usually within a few days.

It's pretty rare to feel like you're riding car-free through the streets of any major city, but that's essentially what happened Saturday while the marshals blocked intersections to allow us to pass. Aside from a few honks and jeers along the way,

Allow Wheels question by Darren G: Any companies that would buy allow wheels for refurb.
Hi

I have a set of 18″ mim alloy wheels to fit a bmw which I am looking to sell and would like to know if anyone knew of a company that would take them off my hands. I thought there may be companies out there that would buy old alloys to refurb them and resell at a profit, although I am at a loss to find one.

Im looking for around £100 for them, all have reasonable tread on tyres, 2 of which are brand new. Do you think this is a fair price?

it cost more to re-do them than to re-mold new ones, the buy them and melt them down most of the time unless its a real rare wheel they usually wont bother with re-doing those, its cheaper now days to make new ones than to try and re-furbish them, good luck.
